About
About Me
I am Zhan Zhiyue (Constance), born in Fuzhou in 2004 and currently completing a B.A. in Network and New Media at Yango University. I am a practice-based researcher working at the intersection of cultural memory studies, digital humanities, and documentary imaging. Over the past three years, I have directed and produced more than ten film and video works, receiving more than ten international, national, and provincial awards. My works have been broadcast on People’s Daily Online, Xuexi Qiangguo, and the Fujian Provincial Radio and Television Administration platforms.
My practice is grounded in the everyday life of southeastern coastal China—from vintage record shops in Quanzhou fishing villages to intergenerational family memories in Kinmen—consistently engaging with endangered local cultures and intangible heritage. For me, documentary imaging is not merely expression but a research method: every shoot is a fieldwork encounter, and every edit is an act of cultural analysis. Beyond production, I maintain active research interests in the algorithmic politics of cultural content distribution, the interaction between media and urban space, and the ethics of AIGC in cultural production.

Research Interests
Algorithmic Culture & Politics
How can documentary imaging of regional cultural subjects achieve effective communication in an algorithm-driven, fragmented-reading media environment? How do platform algorithms shape the visibility and audience composition of cultural content? Is there an inherent tension between cultural depth and communicative reach?
Media Geography
How does social-media “check-in culture” reshape spatial practices and place identity in tourist cities? How does media representation participate in the construction of urban identity? This direction originates from my fieldwork observations in Kinmen.
AIGC & Ethics of Cultural Production
What are the application boundaries and ethical risks of generative AI in local cultural IP production? How does AI-assisted cultural production affect cultural authenticity and creativity? Based on the Xiuyang Village picture-book project and the AI short-film experiment, I propose a practical framework of AI empowerment, not replacement.
